Thankfully, this wonderful estate, which provided me with many memorable drinking experiences in the 1970s and 1980s, has rebounded from a period of mediocrity. The 2003 and 2004 offerings from La Lagune are the finest back-to-back vintages they have produced in over fifteen years. Kudos to the Frey family, who also purchased the Rhone Valley flagship firm of Paul Jaboulet-Aine in 2005. Their daughter, Caroline Frey, is the oenologist at La Lagune. The sexy, up-front, evolved 2003 La Lagune exhibits a dark ruby/purple hue as well as big nose of cedar, spice box, black cherry jam, licorice, and smoke. Savory, broad, ripe, and low in acidity, it is a total hedonistic and intellectual turn-on. Enjoy it now or cellar it for 15+ years. It is unquestionably the finest La Lagune since 1982. Bravo!

"An ethereal, finesse-styled, Cheval Blanc-like delicacy accompanied by intensity characterize the 2006 l'Arrosee, another terrific effort from new proprietor Roger Caille. A dense ruby/purple color is followed by a sweet perfume of crushed rocks, raspberries, cherries, flowers, and spice. Velvety-textured and structured, with considerable concentration yet a lightness of being, this finesse-styled beauty should be ready to drink in 3-5 years, and last for two decades. Drink: 2010 - 2027."

"Assembled into a foudre when I tasted it, the Gauby 2007 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Vieilles Vignes - relatively equally divided among Carignan, Grenache, and Syrah with a smaller amount of Mourvedre, and exposed to around 20% new wood - smells of thyme, rosemary, fennel, and tar, along with ripe black fruits. With a bitter edge to its almost severe palate concentration of cassis, blackberry, juniper berry, resinous herbs, licorice, and tar, this strikingly dense, palate-staining cuvee exhibits a juiciness of fresh fruits and exuberance, as well as a refinement of tannins, that distinguish all of the best recent Gauby wines, and that keep it from austerity. Nor - amid a virtual torrent of finishing fruit - is a diversity of impressions missing that, while hard-to-describe, can only be categorized as mineral. I would anticipate being rewarded by bottles of this for 12-15 years.

Spørger man vinkyndige eller en sommelier i Spanien, ja så er Gran Clos en af de foretrukne bodegaer og blandt de tre-fire bedste. Men på trods af dette forbliver bodegaen relativ ukendt udenfor Spanien.
For nylig blev der afholdt en smagning af top vine fra priorat som hed ”Taste of a Decade”. Gran Clos blev suværen vinder af smagningen foran navne som l’Ermita, Finca Dofi, Clos Erasmus, Clos Magador etc.

The dark ruby/purple-colored 1999 Gran Clos offers up gorgeous aromas of kirsch liqueur, raspberries, and melted licorice. Fantastisk Topvin fra Priorat!
Primitiu de Bellmunt: en dyb, moden og velstruktureret vin, der viser hvordan vine fra den meget roste Priorat region kan lagres yndefuldt.

Antonio Rodriguez begyndte at aftappe vin under sit eget mærke i slutningen af 90'erne. Primitiu de Bellmunt er nu på forkant med dette lille kendte catalanske distrikt, og Priorat har forvandlet sit glansløse ry til et reel kraftcenter for moderne vinfremstilling.

Antonio forsøger sammen med vinproducenten Josep Valiente, at maksimere det fulde potentiale af tre af de ældste vinmarker i hele Priorat med Garnatxa (Grenache) og Carinyena (Carignan) vinstokkene er mellem 70-110-år gamle. Ældre vinstokke betyder naturligvis mindre frugt - der producerer store, saftige koncentrerede vine med karakteristisk underliggende mineralitet og masser af terroir.

CÔTE-RÔTIE - "LA LANDONNE" - 2001

A wine of great intensity and lushness with no hard edges is the dark ruby/purple-colored 2001 Cote Rotie Cote Blonde. Sweet aromas of caramel, honeysuckle, black cherry liqueur, raspberries, currants, and subtle notes of toasty oak are followed by a plump, well-textured, opulent finish. I adore this cuvee of Cote Rotie, and it’s a shame more is not produced. Anticipated maturity: now-2014.

Rene Rostaing is one of the most masterful growers and bottlers of Cote Rotie. Sadly, there is not much produced.

The 2006 Ornellaia flows from the glass in a profound expression of ripe, dark fruit. With time in the glass layers of minerals, cassis, tar, sweet herbs and French oak emerge, adding further complexity. This harmonious Ornellaia combines the richness of the vintage with superb freshness and awesome balance. Today the wine’s sheer density almost manages to hide the tannins, but they are there, and the wine will ultimately benefit from a few years in the cellar. The 2006 Ornellaia is one of the highlights of this sensational Tuscan vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026.
